Spike Spiegel's story could have been enriched with another crazy musical experiment.

“Cowboy Bebop” creator Shinichirō Watanabe shared archival details about the production of the 1998 series. In an interview with Anime Corner, the director recalled one of the team's strangest ideas that ultimately never made it to the screen.

According to Watanabe, early on, the writers had the idea to dedicate a separate episode to a hitman who engages in a shootout while simultaneously performing flamenco. However, during the storyboarding process, the creators realized that the concept wasn't working as they had intended.

"We really did have the idea to use flamenco for an entire episode. The plot was supposed to feature a killer who shoots while dancing. But on paper, this episode started to look like an outright comedic parody. We decided that it didn't fit at all with the overall tone and direction of 'Cowboy Bebop,' so the episode was canceled."

Years later, the director visited Granada, Spain, and saw real flamenco live. This reminded him again of the discarded drafts from the late nineties. Watanabe also emphasized that music has always been one of the main drivers of his work, but in the case of the story about Spike and Jet, the creators had to adhere to strict stylistic boundaries to avoid turning the series into a farce.
