Before the success of the animated series, Robert Kirkman tried to turn "Invincible" into a feature film.

Robert Kirkman admitted that he was the reason why a full-length film adaptation of "Invincible," which Universal Pictures was developing at one point, never happened. According to the author, the studio gave him the opportunity to write the script himself, but the result was so unsuccessful that he chose not to greenlight the project.

"It was absolutely terrible. Just shameful, very bad. It was a useful lesson. You fight for the opportunity to write the script yourself, and then you personally prevent the project from happening because that's what you wrote."

Instead of a feature film, "Invincible" eventually received an animated adaptation for Prime Video, which is now considered one of the service's most successful projects. Amazon recently officially renewed the series for a sixth season, even though the fifth has not yet been released.

At the same time, Kirkman does not rule out that a live-action adaptation may still happen one day. In May, he confirmed in an interview with ScreenRant that the film has not been definitively canceled. Currently, the team's main resources are focused on the animated series, but "there are some movements behind the scenes" that are too early to talk about.
