The creator of Epic Games Store once again decided to speak out about Steam's high commissions.

Recently, quotes from Epic Games boss Tim Sweeney went viral on social media. He stated that Valve is losing millions of players because Steam does not cover the audience of popular games like Fortnite, Genshin Impact, and Riot Games titles (League of Legends and Valorant).

One user on social media responded: "It seems like it's Steam's fault that Epic doesn't host their game there."

Tim Sweeney reacted, and his new post also went viral. The Epic Games boss expressed the opinion that due to Steam's policies, companies like Epic, miHoYo (HoYoverse), and Riot Games find it more profitable to work independently. And he once again noted that if Valve lowered its commission, it would ultimately make more money:

Here's what happens from an economic perspective: Steam charges such high commissions that it's more profitable for developers with strong brands and a large enough audience—like Epic, Riot, and MiHoYo—to operate independently. Paradoxically, lower commissions and greater openness could even increase Steam's profits.

Not everyone agreed with Tim Sweeney's opinion and ridiculed him. For example, Gabe Follower, a well-known Half-Life dataminer in the community, joined the discussion and asked: "Do you happen to have a self-humiliation fetish?"

This is nonsense. Everyone, including you, knows that the price parity requirement only applies to selling Steam keys on third-party platforms because Valve bears all distribution costs—storage and delivery of game files. You just have a hatred for Gabe because he is more successful.

You should fix your store [Epic Games Store] first before slandering a competitor. Even the Microsoft Store and the Xbox Live app completely outperform EGS in terms of user convenience.
