Microsoft returned Xbox account to player after "irreversible" ban
The account owner thanked Microsoft but remained dissatisfied with the support service's work.
On July 14, streamer Joshua Khane shared his problem on social media. According to him, his account was hacked, but after contacting Microsoft support, the situation only worsened. To "prevent further misuse," the company "irreversibly" blocked the account for "data protection." As a result, Khane lost access not only to his Xbox digital library, which he had been building for about 25 years, but also to data in Microsoft OneDrive cloud storage, including photos of his son.
The post quickly spread across media and social networks. Soon, Microsoft representatives contacted Khane and restored his account. The streamer thanked the company for returning his data but stated that the whole situation left him with an unpleasant impression.
"The way this was handled was wrong. It's not that they can't return the account. They won't return it if you're nobody. And I'm nobody — it's just that my tweet went viral."
This story coincided with ongoing disputes surrounding Sony's abandonment of physical media. Many users believe that companies should pay more attention to account protection and offer clearer mechanisms for their recovery after hacking.
