The project was initially developed for Hulu, but the director of "Sinners" seemingly had his own artistic vision.

Ryan Coogler has completed filming the pilot episode of the new “X-Files.” According to World of Reel, its runtime is close to two hours. The director shot the project on 65mm film, with Autumn Durald Arkapaw, who worked with Coogler on “Sinners,” serving as cinematographer.

Such an unusual format for television is likely due to the director's artistic vision. As World of Reel notes, Ryan Coogler proposed to Disney to turn the pilot episode into a feature film and release it in theaters. However, the fate of the project is not yet definitively decided: Hulu has only ordered the production of the pilot, so it could later become the basis for a series, a standalone film, or not receive a continuation at all.

The main roles in the pilot were played by Danielle Deadwyler (“The Bear,” “Rustin”) and Himesh Patel (“Enola Holmes 3,” “Odyssey”) — they portray two experienced but very different FBI agents assigned to a long-closed unit investigating unexplained phenomena. Additionally, Amy Madigan, Steve Buscemi, Ben Foster, Dever Jacobs, and other actors starred in the project.

As for the return of David Duchovny and Gillian Anderson, for now, these are just rumors. However, Anderson has already read the script, called the new version “special,” said she discussed the project with Coogler several times, and did not rule out her return if there is a suitable role for her.

For now, we await official details. If Hulu does order a full season, Jennifer Yale will be the showrunner, and Chris Carter, the creator of the original “X-Files,” will serve as executive producer.
