Jeffrey Dean Morgan could have played Lobo long before Jason Momoa - the actor was given a year to bulk up
The star of "The Walking Dead" spoke about preparing for the role in the unmade adaptation.
Jeffrey Dean Morgan was a guest on Josh Horowitz's Happy Sad Confused podcast for the premiere of the third season of "The Walking Dead: Dead City." During the conversation, the actor recalled that in the 2010s, DC planned a comic book adaptation about Lobo, and Morgan was considered for the main role.
According to the actor, the character of the intergalactic bounty hunter perfectly matched his sense of humor, but the role required him to significantly gain muscle mass:
"He fit my sense of humor and sarcasm, but not my physique. I had a year to get bigger, but in the end, nothing came of it. There was a script then that needed work."
Morgan did not specify which version of the adaptation was being discussed or why the project did not materialize. Warner Bros. tried for many years to launch a feature film about Lobo, but none of the options ever made it to production. The actor himself publicly spoke about his desire to play the character back in 2009, and then returned to this idea again in 2018.
Ultimately, Lobo made it to the big screen played by Jason Momoa, who had also dreamed of this role for many years. His debut was in "Supergirl," while Morgan never got to embody the intergalactic bounty hunter.
