David Tennant Not Returning to "Doctor Who" Yet - Electric Entertainment Denies Talks with BBC
The studio plans to compete for the series' production but has not yet discussed the project with the British corporation.
Electric Entertainment head Dean Devlin has denied reports of negotiations with the BBC regarding the future of "Doctor Who." Earlier, The Times reported that the company wanted to reboot the series and bring back David Tennant to the role of the Time Lord.
In a comment to Radio Times, Devlin stated that there had been no negotiations yet, but confirmed interest in the project:
"It is incorrect that we have been in discussions with the BBC – preliminary or otherwise. When the time is right and they are ready to talk to potential partners, we certainly hope to have a conversation with them."
Thus, Tennant's possible return has not yet been confirmed by anything.
The BBC has already announced a tender for the production of the next seasons of "Doctor Who." In addition to Electric Entertainment, BBC Studios, which produced the series for most of its history before it was handed over to Bad Wolf, intends to compete for the project. The selection of a new producer could take up to six months. Even in an optimistic scenario, "Doctor Who" will not return with new episodes before 2028.
