Splash Damage Almost Bought State of Decay Creators

Emona Capital was supposed to help with the deal.

According to The Game Business, Undead Labs, known for the State of Decay series, could have come under the control of British Splash Damage, but the deal ultimately fell through.

It was assumed that Splash Damage would acquire Undead Labs with financial support from the investment company Emona Capital. This fund also supports British publisher Secret Mode and other gaming projects. The reasons for the deal falling through are not specified. After this, Undead Labs was able to return to independence, with the studio becoming employee-owned.

Currently, the studio continues to work on State of Decay 3, but the game's publisher has not yet been announced.

All these changes are part of a larger 'reboot' of Xbox's gaming division. As part of the restructuring, the company also laid off hundreds of employees and reallocated a number of internal teams. In particular, the Halo franchise was transferred to Activision, World's Edge and Rare also came under its management, Obsidian Entertainment was moved to the Bethesda structure, and Turn 10 Studios is merging with Playground Games.
