Another studio has decided to switch to Epic Games' modern engine.
Recently, the Offworld team prepared a major update for Squad. The project was based on the Unreal Engine 4, and now they have switched to a new version.
The choice fell on Unreal Engine 5.5: "This update marks an important step forward, and although it was a serious but necessary event. Switching to the latest technology will allow us to ensure the prosperity of Squad for the next decade."
The authors began to use Nanite and some frame generation technologies, and also introduced the "new Unreal 5 physics engine — Chaos Physics and the new sound engine — Metasounds, which helped to reach a new level of development of these two systems and open up much more opportunities for vehicles and sound in the future."
The matter was not limited to technical innovations, for example, they presented a remake of Al-Basrah — this is the first map created from scratch on UE 5.
Bots and game mechanics were also updated; new armored vehicles were prepared, a reconnaissance drone appeared, and more — a complete list of changes and innovations is available at the following link.
