Three years after Warner Bros. canceled the release of "Batgirl," actor Jacob Scipio has expressed hope that viewers will still be able to see the film.
Warner Bros.' decision to cancel the release of the film "Batgirl" by directors Adil El Arbi and Bilall Fallah in 2022 became one of the most discussed topics in Hollywood. Despite the fact that production was completed, the studio wrote off the project as a tax deduction, which caused a wave of criticism from fans and industry colleagues.
Three years later, one of the actors in the film, Jacob Scipio, admitted in an interview with The Direct that he has not lost hope for a possible release.
"I was lucky enough to see the film, and it was amazing. It's a pity that the world never saw it. But, you know... you never know. Hollywood is a funny place, and I think if enough people want it, anything is possible."
Thus, the film was indeed almost ready, and the reasons for its cancellation are still not fully understood. Earlier, co-CEO of DC Studios Peter Safran claimed that "Batgirl" could "harm the DC brand."
Scipio, however, cited another story as an example — the adventure comedy "Coyote vs. Acme", which faced a similar fate, but was eventually saved. After lengthy negotiations, the rights to the cartoon were acquired by Ketchup Entertainment, and the premiere is now scheduled for August 28, 2026.
