Halo: Campaign Evolved will receive updated graphics in 4K, four-player co-op, and will be released on multiple platforms. The game is being created on Unreal Engine 5, but its foundation is the code of the original Halo: Combat Evolved. This approach is compared to the remaster of The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion.
According to the developers, the Unreal Engine 5 engine is used on top of the "legacy code" of the first part. Game Director Greg Herman said in an interview:
"We are building on the foundation of the original, and the new UE5 tools help us move the series forward while maintaining its essence."
He noted that the studio has already worked with Unreal and is now confident that the combination of new technologies and old resources will help Halo remain relevant for future generations.
The team promises that the gameplay will retain the authentic feel of Halo: Combat Evolved, although the levels have become larger.
"We will continue to expand technological capabilities, but at the same time we will maintain the classic Halo feel - in sounds, gameplay and atmosphere."
Halo: Campaign Evolved will be released in 2026 on Xbox Series X/S, PS5 and PC. The game will not have multiplayer, but there will be three new missions before the events of the original - with new enemies, mechanics and the participation of Master Chief and Sergeant Johnson.
