Tom Felton's participation in a Broadway production has renewed talks about the possible return of other original actors.
While HBO is working on a new series based on the books by J.K. Rowling, fans of the "Harry Potter" universe have not lost hope of seeing familiar faces again. Interest in the return of the original trio — Daniel Radcliffe, Emma Watson, and Rupert Grint — was fueled by Tom Felton's recent appearance as Draco Malfoy in the Broadway production of "Harry Potter and the Cursed Child."
In a conversation with the BBC, Rupert Grint admitted that he doesn't yet know if he will return to the role that defined his childhood.
"Maybe in the future. Never say 'never,' but right now, as much as I enjoyed that time, I'm enjoying working outside of that world."
He added that the image of Ron still accompanies him, but is now perceived calmly: "I don't think I'll ever completely come out of his shadow, but I'm okay with that."
Grint also admitted that the news about the new cast evoked a wave of nostalgia in him. The approval of Alastair Stout for the role of Ron brought him back to memories of the first days of filming: "I still remember every second."
In addition, Grint said that he wrote Stout a letter with wishes before starting work on the series — similar to how Daniel Radcliffe supported Dominic Maclaughlin, the new performer of Harry Potter.
"It was just passing the baton. I wished him all the best. I had a lot of fun working on these films, and I hope he experiences the same thing,"
He also noted that he sees some "family resemblance" between himself and Stout — probably referring to red hair.
Despite his own doubts, Grint does not rule out that his children may one day join the world of "Harry Potter": "Why not?"
The HBO reboot of "Harry Potter" is scheduled to be released in 2027. The second season is already in development, but the premiere date of the first has not yet been announced.
