The authors of \"Return to Silent Hill\" talked about their approach to the adaptation of Silent Hill 2
The director considers Silent Hill 2 the darkest and most adult game in the entire series.
Umbrella Entertainment channel has released a new featurette for the film \"Return to Silent Hill\", an adaptation of the cult Silent Hill 2, on which director Christophe Gans is working again. In a short video, the creators and actors discuss how the classic game has been transformed into a psychological horror for the big screen.
Producer Molly Hassel emphasizes that Gans himself is a gamer and therefore feels the spirit of Silent Hill better than others: "No one could have transferred this story to the screen with such respect for the original source."
Her colleague Victor Hadida adds that the team worked closely with Konami to preserve the authenticity of the details and the visual language of the original.
Gans himself explains that he perceives Silent Hill 2 as a free interpretation of the myth of Orpheus and Eurydice — a story about a man who descends into hell to bring back his beloved. Among the sources of inspiration, the director names Jean Cocteau's film \"Orpheus\", which influenced the concept of the film.
The video also touches on the first film from 2006: Gans recalls that Akira Yamaoka liked his work, calling the composer \"the creator of Silent Hill\". Viewers have already ridiculed the director in the comments for this wording, although, probably, it was about \"one of\" the creators.
The world premiere of \"Return to Silent Hill\" will take place on January 23, 2026, and the film will be released in Russia a day earlier — on January 22. Judging by the first reviews, the film will especially appeal to fans of Silent Hill 2, while unprepared viewers may find it difficult to understand what is happening.
