Ubisoft is selling "a hole from a doughnut" for $50: The Division: Definitive Edition has been released, and it does not even include updated graphics
The edition was not advertised because there was nothing to advertise.
In early February, rumors began circulating online about The Division: Definitive Edition — a re-release of Ubisoft's original looter-shooter. Against the backdrop of the ongoing wait for The Division 3, such a release could have been a great way to maintain fan interest and attract a new audience. However, in practice, everything turned out to be far less promising.
On February 3, Tom Clancy’s The Division – Definitive Edition quietly appeared on the PlayStation and Xbox digital stores. Usually, editions like this offer not only the full set of content, but also a noticeable graphics upgrade, adaptation for modern consoles, and various improvements. But in this case, Ubisoft appears to have simply decided to try to sell the old game once again; the game has no separate versions for PS5 or Xbox Series X|S. Yes, it can be played on the new consoles, but no special enhancements have been provided for them.
The edition's description lists the standard contents: the base game, three expansions from the season pass, and several cosmetic packs. There is no mention of graphical updates or gameplay refinements — because they simply do not exist. The most players can hope for is natural upscaling improvement thanks to more powerful hardware.
In effect, Definitive Edition turned out to be a slightly expanded version of the already existing The Division Gold Edition, but with a $50 price tag and without any technological upgrade whatsoever.
