Electronic Arts has conducted a new wave of layoffs, affecting several studios working on the Battlefield series. The layoffs affected employees at Criterion Games, DICE, Ripple Effect Studios, and Motive Studio. The exact number of employees laid off has not yet been disclosed.
Employees were informed that the reductions were due to a "redistribution of resources" between the studios involved in developing the franchise. However, all four studios will continue to operate.
Despite the reductions, the launch of Battlefield 6 was extremely successful. The game became the best-selling in the US in 2025 and sold approximately 7 million copies in just three days — the best start in the series' history. However, critics gave the story campaign a lukewarm reception, while the multiplayer received a warmer welcome.
Nevertheless, several months after release, the game began to encounter problems. Each update sparked new controversies among players. Users criticized changes to cosmetics and movement mechanics, and also complained about aggressive monetization and the use of generative AI to create in-game items. As a result, user reviews on Steam fell from "Mostly Positive" to "Mixed" in three months.
