A new trend has emerged on X, filled with nostalgia for DriveClub, one of the most underrated racing games on PS4.
It all started with a short video featuring rain effects that are still impressive. Players are surprised that the project is already 12 years old, but it still looks better than many modern games with 1080p and 30 FPS on the original console.
Although the memories are mostly positive, disputes continue. Some use DriveClub to accuse modern developers of laziness, while others remind us that a not very deep game was hidden behind the beautiful picture.
The release was problematic – the game was planned as a launch title for PS4, but it was released with a year's delay and in a raw state. Against the background of the trend for open worlds, the classic tracks from Evolution seemed outdated, although now the format would be better received.
The studio continued support: they added weather effects, new cars, and motorcycles. Over time, DriveClub became a cult classic and received a version for PSVR.
Later, the studio was closed. Against the background of the dominance of series like Gran Turismo and Forza Horizon, this became a common story for projects without the status of a megahit.
The modern racing market remains tough – this is evident in games like Screamer and the new Sonic Racing, which find it difficult to break through to a wide audience.
