Resident Evil Game Director Reveals Where Another Chapter in Requiem Went

In the video game industry, significant changes often occur during the development phase: scripts are rewritten, animations are reworked, locations are changed, and sometimes developers completely cut entire segments.

As it turned out, a similar situation happened with Resident Evil Requiem. The project's game director, Koushi Nakanishi, revealed in a recent interview that an entire episode was cut from the project during development.

The Resident Evil series has long been known for such cases. For example, Resident Evil 4 had a deleted "Chapter 0," Resident Evil 3 also lost a lot of content, and in Resident Evil 7, developers abandoned one of the episodes. Now, Requiem has joined this list.

In a conversation with the Japanese publication DenFamicoGamer, Nakanishi recalled that he had previously spoken about a "ghost chapter 2" in Resident Evil 7. According to him, this episode was supposed to show the player's transition from the guest house to the main mansion, but it was ultimately completely cut.

A similar case occurred with the new game. He explained that as the project's structure takes shape, the team constantly reviews content: some scenes are moved, others are changed, and some are completely removed.

Nakanishi emphasized that this is standard practice for game development. According to him, the team first creates a rough version of the project and then refines it many times, and in this process, they often have to sacrifice even entire chapters.

However, such decisions are not always made easily.
