However, the studio avoided the question of using AI-generated objects in the game engine and special scripts for prompts.

After the recent showcase of Tomb Raider: Legacy of Atlantis at the PlayStation State of Play presentation, players' attention was drawn not only to the release date announcement — February 12, 2027 — but also to information on Steam about the use of generative artificial intelligence in the development process. Now, developers from Crystal Dynamics have for the first time elaborated on how exactly these tools were used.

During Summer Game Fest 2026, journalists had the opportunity not only to get acquainted with the demo version of Lara Croft's new adventure but also to talk with studio representatives. When asked about the use of generative AI, Tomb Raider: Legacy of Atlantis Game Experience Director Jeff Adams explained that the company views artificial intelligence solely as an auxiliary tool to accelerate workflows.

According to Adams, generative AI is used in the early stages of development to visualize ideas. For example, if the team wants to check how a certain object will look in the game world but is not ready to spend resources on its full creation, developers can quickly generate a preliminary concept. If the idea proves successful, further work continues within the traditional production process.

Adams emphasized that all content that will appear in the final version of the game is created by humans. Artists develop concept art, model objects, and bring them to the required quality. According to him, the main goal of the studio is to provide employees with tools that will help them create high-quality gaming experiences faster.

When journalists tried to clarify whether AI-generated objects are used directly in the game engine and whether they contain any additional scripts, a public relations representative interrupted the discussion. He noted that the studio is not yet ready to disclose additional details and prefers to return to this topic after the game's release, when players can evaluate the result themselves.
