Attentive individuals continue to track every instance of AI tool usage in games.

Recently, Panache Digital Games unveiled the prologue to the game 1666: Amsterdam. This studio was founded by Patrice Désilets, who created games for the well-known franchises Assassin's Creed and Prince of Persia, as well as Ancestors: The Humankind Odyssey.

The project attracted the attention of players, and some had complaints — assets created with artificial intelligence were found in the game. There are people who react very strongly to the use of AI, so the game was quickly labeled "AI slop."

The developers promptly responded to the criticism and admitted that AI assets made it into the game.

We have a dedicated team of over a dozen talented and experienced artists. Together with them, we reviewed the mentioned assets and found that there were indeed some early versions of assets that made it into the prologue. For example, some in-game portraits and external marketing materials.

Currently, the creators of 1666: Amsterdam are conducting a review and promise to replace the assets with human-created ones in the "next update."

The developers apologized:

We acknowledge this oversight and apologize for any inconvenience caused. Please be assured that the "early access" version and the full version of the game will not contain AI-generated assets.
