Former Rockstar developer refuses to buy GTA VI after dismissal and lawsuit against employer
Dissatisfied employees are trying to settle scores with Rockstar through court.
Last year, it became known that several dozen Rockstar North employees were dismissed. Among them was Jack Hoxby. They claim that this was punishment for attempting to form a trade union.
The case went to court, and recently, amidst the ongoing proceedings, journalists asked if Hoxby intended to buy Grand Theft Auto VI. He made it clear that he would definitely not be making a purchase anytime soon:
I don't think I'll buy it. Maybe I'll play it someday, but I'm not in the mood for that right now.

The conflict surrounding the Rockstar North dismissals has continued for several months. It recently became known that the next court hearing will take place in the autumn:
The tribunal's latest preliminary ruling confirmed the right of the dismissed IWGB union members to continue to bring claims of blacklisting [a form of discrimination] at the main tribunal hearing, which will take place from September 10 to October 15, 2026. IWGB defines "blacklisting" as "the practice of collecting information about workers involved in trade union activities for the purpose of subsequent discrimination."
What is happening within Rockstar has not yet affected the launch schedule of Grand Theft Auto VI. Pre-orders recently opened, and it was confirmed that the game will be released on November 19 of this year.
