However, there are still people in the gaming community who are content with just renting games.

Following Sony's official announcement to cease releasing physical copies of games starting January 2028, heated discussions continue within the gaming community. The company's decision has sparked a wave of criticism, and amidst rumors of a similar move by Xbox, many players have openly begun to advocate for physical media.

According to Sony's statement, starting January 2028, new PlayStation games will no longer be released on discs. Instead, customers in retail stores will receive a standard box with a code to download the game, rather than a physical medium.

The company explained its decision by stating that digital distribution has become the primary way to purchase games, and disc sales account for only a small fraction of the total volume. Sony believes that a complete transition to digital format is a natural stage in the industry's development.

However, many gamers disagree with this approach. Digital Foundry's YouTube channel launched a poll on the future of physical editions. More than 48,000 people participated in the vote.

The results were quite telling: 86% of participants believe that physical copies of games are still important and Sony should reconsider its decision. Only 14% of those who voted supported the position that "digital format is the future."

The reaction in the comments was no less eloquent. One of the most common phrases among PlayStation owners was the statement: "PS5 will be my last console," reflecting the dissatisfaction of some of the audience with the company's abandonment of traditional physical editions.
