The company wants people to spend more time in its games.
Ubisoft CEO Yves Guillemot has announced the company's plans for the Far Cry series. According to him, future games in the franchise will be more focused on multiplayer modes in order to increase player engagement on a long-term basis.
Guillemot emphasized that Ubisoft intends to «more actively promote» multiplayer elements, making them a central part of the gaming experience. This statement is directly related to the project codenamed Maverick — an extraction shooter in which players have to survive in the wild, collect resources, and fight wild animals and other players.
At the same time, Ubisoft is working on the main part of the series — presumably Far Cry 7 — under the codename Blackbird. However, sources within the studios involved in the development express skepticism about Maverick. In their opinion, the project relies too heavily on the Far Cry brand without offering enough unique mechanics.
