Hungarian player Szabolcs Csepe, known as Grasshopper, has set a Guinness World Record for the longest gaming marathon in history. He spent 144 hours, or 6 days straight, playing Dance Dance Revolution.
The idea came to him after learning about the achievement of American Carrie Swidecki, who held the 2015 record for 138 hours in Just Dance. "I often wondered how she managed to spend so much time in front of the screen. Then I decided that one day I would beat this result," Csepe said.
Before the main record, he gradually progressed through other marathons:
- in 2021 - 28 hours 11 minutes inNarutimetto Akuseru 2 (the longest marathon in a Naruto game);
- then 32 hours 32 minutes 32 seconds inTetris Effect (a record among puzzle games);
- in 2023 - 90 hours in Gran Turismo 7, which earned two titles: for the racing and simulator genres.
The DDR session covered 3,000 songs and burned about 22,000 calories. Csepe admitted that it was the most exhausting attempt: "My arms and shoulders ached for hours, but I was ready - I trained physically and carefully planned my nutrition and water balance."
He described the marathon as "difficult but comfortable": standing for 24 hours straight is hard, but, according to him, "the body moved freely, without sudden loads, as it happens, for example, in racing games."
Now his 144-hour run is recognized as the longest gaming marathon in the world.
