Modder Creates Multiplayer for The Last of Us Part II - Gameplay, Co-op Photo Mode, and Other Features Revealed
The enthusiast continues to test various co-op mechanics in Naughty Dog's game.
Modder known as Speclizer continues to share progress on his ambitious project. The tech enthusiast is developing an unofficial multiplayer for the PC version of The Last of Us Part II Remastered.
Work is steadily progressing, and he recently released the sixth development diary. In this installment, he offers players a look at the animation synchronization system between the host and the second user on the map — a crucial component for stable cooperative gameplay.
To achieve this, Speclizer had to "reconcile" the game engine and third-party users. Previously, the second player would freeze during animation playback, but now the engine correctly calculates different situations, such as passing through a door, and synchronizes this information among all participants in the game session.
He also made additional changes to the game logic of the state model in The Last of Us Part II Remastered to support co-op: the game now reacts normally to jumps and can display the partner's status when they are examining their inventory. Additionally, a co-op photo mode will be available.
Gameplay footage of Speclizer's multiplayer for The Last of Us Part II Remastered is available at the following link. The modder clarified that what is shown in the video is in an "experimental" stage, and work is ongoing.
