NVIDIA Plans to Increase Price of Flagship GeForce RTX 5090 by $300
The company simply doesn't have the money to keep up with rising memory prices.
The cost of the RTX 5090 could increase by approximately $300. This increase will primarily affect Nvidia's partners – companies that produce finished graphics cards – and then inevitably impact end consumers.
The main reason cited is a global shortage of GDDR7 memory. Due to the deficit, component deliveries are delayed, and production costs continue to rise. Until now, Nvidia has partially absorbed the additional costs itself, but increasing market pressure reportedly forces the company to pass some of these costs on to partners.
A peculiarity of Nvidia's supply chain is that the company sells partners a kit that includes both the GB202 graphics chip and the GDDR7 memory itself. This spares graphics card manufacturers from having to directly negotiate with DRAM suppliers in challenging market conditions, but simultaneously makes any price changes immediately noticeable to the retail market.
