What to Expect from Albion: Playground Games Shows 30 Minutes of New Fable Gameplay
The video provides a detailed look at the city of Silverbrook.
Playground Games unexpectedly released a 30-minute demonstration of the gameplay for the new Fable installment.
During the demonstration, associate project directors William Kennedy and Craig Littler show a playthrough as a hero with a reputation for being a kind and helpful character. However, the developers emphasize that players will be able to choose their own path and make decisions without any strict limitations.
According to the creators, the hero's reputation will not be formed on a "good or bad" principle. Each inhabitant of Albion has their own moral views and evaluates the player's actions differently. Because of this, some characters may hate the hero for certain actions, while others will admire them for the very same actions.
The developers also talked about an advanced character behavior system. The inhabitants of the world do not exist solely to interact with the player — they have their own affairs, daily routines, and goals. As Kennedy noted, Albion feels alive precisely because its inhabitants lead full lives regardless of the hero's presence.
Although most of the video is dedicated to a peaceful playthrough, at the end of the demonstration, the authors also show the opposite playstyle. The hero begins to attack the city's inhabitants, gradually acquiring reputational characteristics such as "Criminal" and "Murderer." At the same time, the system does not forget his past good deeds, maintaining a more complex and multifaceted character image instead of a complete transition to the side of good or evil.
An interesting feature will be the ability to influence public opinion with gold. Players will be able to pay the inhabitants of Albion to spread desired rumors about themselves, effectively forming the desired reputation regardless of real actions. This will allow manipulating the perception of the hero and opens up additional opportunities for role-playing various roles.
