Later, retailer LDLC abandoned the playful name in favor of the simpler and more neutral PC Box.

French retailer LDLC has unveiled a compact gaming PC that could be a more powerful alternative to Valve's new Steam Machine. Initially, the device was named Stim Machine, but the company later abandoned this option in favor of the more neutral PC Box.

In terms of specifications, the new product largely replicates the Steam Machine but differs in its main component – instead of a semi-custom RDNA 3 architecture GPU, it uses a full-fledged Radeon RX 9060 XT graphics card with 8 GB of RDNA 4 memory. Thanks to this, the PC provides significantly higher gaming performance and supports FSR 4 technology.

The system is based on a six-core AMD Ryzen 5 8400F processor, complemented by 16 GB of DDR5 RAM and a 500 GB SSD. Unlike the Steam Machine, the case also allows for the installation of two additional SATA drives and future graphics card replacement.

However, higher performance comes at the cost of size. While the Steam Machine's case volume is only 3.8 liters, the LDLC PC occupies about 11.5 liters, which is almost three times larger. Additionally, users will have to install SteamOS themselves, whereas Valve's device is fully ready to use right out of the box. The alternative also lacks a number of proprietary Steam Machine features, including instant sleep mode and HDMI CEC support for TV control.
