Gamers recalled the Japanese gacha with small "PlayStation discs" after Sony refused to release physical versions of the game

Earlier this month, Sony announced that it would stop producing discs for new PlayStation games. Against this backdrop, a post by user MindPrize1260 went viral, drawing the PlayStation community's attention to a real Japanese gacha.

In Japan, gashapon (or gashapon) is widespread — special machines sell capsules with random contents. They usually contain small figures; they are released in collections, so those who want to collect them all are forced to "roll" them in gacha, exchange them, or look for sale announcements.

Bandai Namco Entertainment is known to many as the publisher of Elden Ring and Dark Souls, but Bandai Namco's activities are not limited to video games alone. For example, it also released a gashapon collection of PlayStation games.

These are small figures whose design replicates the boxes of games for PlayStation 4. MindPrize1260 published an example with The Last of Us Part II. Moreover, it's not just a "box"; inside them is a small disc stylized as a Blu-ray.

One of the community members joked — showing the "version" of gashapon for GTA VI:

The thing is, Grand Theft Auto VI is a completely digital release; players will find a download code for the game in the "boxes".
