Suspect in $220K Steam Game Theft Arrested in US
US federal agents have arrested 21-year-old Florida resident Zaiyair Wilkins, who is suspected of participating in a scheme to distribute malware through Steam games.
According to the investigation, Wilkins, along with accomplices, released eight projects with embedded malware from May 2024 to February 2026. During this time, the infected games were installed on approximately eight thousand devices. Investigators believe that the attackers gained access to about 80 crypto wallets and stole at least $220 thousand. Court documents mention BlockBlasters, Chemia, Dashverse, DashFPS, Lampy, Lunara, PirateFi, and Tokenova — these same projects are listed on the FBI page for victims of malicious Steam games.
One of the victims was Latvian streamer Raivo Plavnieks (RastalandTV). The man, with stage four sarcoma, was raising money for treatment and, during a broadcast, agreed to launch BlockBlasters at a viewer's request. After installing the game, about $32 thousand disappeared from his crypto wallet.
In total, the infected version of BlockBlasters was linked to the theft of over $150 thousand from hundreds of users. After the incident, the community helped RastalandTV raise even more than the necessary amount, so the streamer donated the remaining money to charity.
BlockBlasters was removed from Steam back in 2025, but the alleged participant in the scheme was only identified now. The FBI tracked the movement of the stolen cryptocurrency to the Bitrefill service, where over 150 gift cards were purchased with it. A significant portion of the certificates was for Uber Eats, and the orders paid with them were delivered to Wilkins' home and university addresses.
If convicted, he faces up to ten years in prison. The investigation is ongoing, and the identities of his alleged accomplices have not yet been disclosed.
