No Man's Sky's Record Online Isn't the Main Thing: Director Names the Game's True Success
Sean Murray admitted that for him, the greatest success of No Man's Sky over ten years is not the record online numbers or BAFTA awards, but the cohesive teamwork.
After ten years of updates to No Man's Sky, Hello Games head Sean Murray said that the best moments for him were not the record number of players or BAFTA and The Game Awards accolades, but the team's work.
He recalls how the developers together first launched major updates, including Voyagers, third-person view, and the social hub The Space Anomaly. According to Murray, the real thrill is when the team sees something "no one has ever seen before."
That was a real thrill. That's when I go home and I'm just overflowing with emotion. And you think: "People are going to love this."
Murray also recalled the Beyond update, which was released with many bugs. The team released about 27 hotfixes in just one week.
We just worked very, very hard. (...) The most important thing was that the team worked cohesively and solved problems very quickly.
According to him, such a pace was possible thanks to the systems that Hello Games had been building for years.
