The house on Ocean Avenue will once again be the focus in a reimagining of the classic 1979 film.
Amazon MGM Studios has launched production on a new adaptation of The Amityville Horror, one of the most famous stories in the horror genre. David F. Sandberg, director of the Until Dawn adaptation from Supermassive Games, will helm the project.
The film is billed as a reimagining of the original 1979 film, based on the book by Jay Anson. The script will be written by Richard Naing and Ian Goldberg, the authors of The Conjuring 4: Last Rites, The Nun 2, The Autopsy of Jane Doe, and the Fear the Walking Dead series.
The story will once again be connected to the infamous house at 112 Ocean Avenue in Amityville. In 1974, six members of the DeFeo family were brutally murdered there. A year later, the Lutz family moved into the house, claiming to have encountered paranormal phenomena. Anson's book, published in 1977, quickly became a bestseller and spawned dozens of adaptations, both official and unofficial, combining elements of "true crime" stories and the supernatural.
