Previously, publisher Take-Two assured that the first delay would be the last. But after months of silence, the studio announced a new delay. In a statement, Rockstar explained that the additional months are needed to bring the game to the best possible quality.
According to journalist Tom Henderson, the delay will cost $10 million per month, totaling about $60 million.
A developer I spoke with estimated the additional cost at about $10 million per month. Considering salaries and other expenses, the amount could approach $100 million.
At the same time, the total development costs for GTA 6 are estimated by some at approximately $2 billion, so the new cost overrun will not have a serious impact on the project's profits.
Henderson also reminded that the spring release initially looked unrealistic, although he did not officially report the delay.
Meanwhile, Rockstar has faced criticism for firing employees accused of "data leaks." They claim that the company is fighting the union in this way and staged a protest.
