Konami had questions for the developers of Umamusume: Pretty Derby.
Konami Digital Entertainment and Cygames studio have settled a patent dispute related to the game Umamusume: Pretty Derby. This was reported by CyberAgent, the owner of Cygames.
The proceedings lasted two years - the lawsuit was filed back in 2023. Konami claimed that Cygames had violated 18 patents relating to the basic game mechanics of Umamusume: Pretty Derby, and demanded that the distribution of the project be stopped, as well as compensation in the amount of 4 billion yen (about $26 million).
In response, Cygames filed requests to invalidate all 18 patents, insisting that there were no violations. However, the parties decided to settle the conflict peacefully in order not to delay the process and ensure the stable operation of the game for users.
CyberAgent's statement emphasizes that the company "respects the work of industry creators, including Konami Digital Entertainment, and strives for the further development of the gaming industry."
The terms of the agreement, including the list of patents and details of possible compensation, are not disclosed due to the non-disclosure agreement.
