Nintendo is once again in the spotlight for its fight against piracy. This time, the Japanese company has filed a lawsuit against a Reddit moderator, accusing them of managing or facilitating sites that distribute illegal games for the Nintendo Switch.
The court is demanding compensation of $4.5 million, claiming that the moderator, known as Archbox, was actively involved in the unauthorized reproduction and distribution of hundreds or thousands of copyrighted games.
The situation escalated after the first official warning: Archbox allegedly refused to cease activities, which forced Nintendo to go to court. Documents show that the moderator did not respond to the lawsuit. This strengthened the prosecution's position and paved the way for severe punishment.
The company claims that hundreds of thousands of pirated copies of games have been distributed through Archbox's channels, causing significant economic damage. The accusation is part of Nintendo's strategy to aggressively protect intellectual property. Previously, the company has sought multi-million dollar compensation for piracy.
The lawsuit remains at a preliminary stage, and there is no final decision yet, but the message is clear: piracy for Nintendo is a direct attack on the industry, and any illegal distribution of its games will be prosecuted as strictly as possible.
