"Vampiric Hunger" in The Blood of Dawnwalker Can Ruin Campaign Playthroughs
The Blood of Dawnwalker will feature a "total hunger" system that will affect not only combat but the entire storyline. Developers from Rebel Wolves revealed new details about the RPG from former The Witcher 3 creators.
In the latest issue of Game Informer, the studio revealed that the main character Coen's vampiric nature will be a key game mechanic. Players will constantly have to monitor the character's hunger level.
If the indicator drops too low, the hero will lose control and automatically attack the first person they encounter. The victim could even be an important NPC, which will permanently change or completely break the current campaign playthrough.
The developers also confirmed four difficulty levels: Story, Normal, Duelist, and Nightmare. Additionally, individual gameplay elements can be manually adjusted through special parameters.
Studio head Konrad Tomaszkiewicz cited the combat system as an example. Players who prefer classic parries will be able to enable omnidirectional blocking, but this will come at the cost of increased stamina consumption.
The developers stated that they want to give players freedom on the level of tabletop RPGs. The world will consist of independent storylines, and how they intertwine, and whom the hero accidentally "eats" along the way, depends solely on the player.
