New Dungeons & Dragons game from Star Wars Jedi creator canceled less than a year after announcement
There's a possibility that the game was too similar to Warlock, which is why it was canceled.
Hasbro has canceled a single-player Dungeons & Dragons game that was being developed by Giant Skull studio, led by Star Wars Jedi game director Stig Asmussen. The project was announced less than a year ago.
Little was known about the game itself. After leaving Respawn Entertainment in 2023, Asmussen founded Giant Skull studio and began developing a new D&D project. At the time, the developer promised "an immersive story" and "heroic battles."
However, according to Bloomberg, Wizards of the Coast shut down the project earlier this year.
We evaluate concepts at every stage of development. While we decided not to proceed with the early concept from Giant Skull, we have great respect for Stig Asmussen and his team and value our ongoing relationship.
However, the collaboration between the parties has not been completely terminated. According to Bloomberg, Wizards of the Coast continues to consider new game concepts from Giant Skull, and Asmussen himself is already in talks with other companies about potential publishing agreements.
The Giant Skull project was one of several major Hasbro games in development. These include the sci-fi RPG Exodus, which is compared to Mass Effect, and a dark Dungeons & Dragons action game codenamed Warlock. Both games are planned for release in 2027.
It is possible that Asmussen's canceled project turned out to be too similar to Warlock in terms of mechanics and concept.
