"Reminds me of Forspoken." The Creator of the Series Harshly Criticized God of War: Laufey

David Jaffe, the creator of the original God of War, criticized God of War: Laufey, announced at State of Play, calling it uninspired, boring, and predicting its failure.

The announcement of God of War: Laufey did not please everyone. One of the harshest critics of Santa Monica Studio's new game was David Jaffe, the creator of the original God of War, who sharply commented on the trailer shown during the State of Play broadcast.

Jaffe's greatest dissatisfaction was caused by the very concept of the project.

What the hell was that? Laufey? What even is that? It looks like crap. I'll be honest. It reminds me a bit of Forspoken. In my opinion, it looks completely uninspired and terribly boring.

Later, the developer added that he does not believe in the project's success:

You have to remember that this is probably the beginning of the game. There's a new game designation there. But it looks like the beginning. It's a failure. This game will not achieve the success expected of it.

Jaffe's biggest complaint is that the series, in his opinion, has lost its identity.

You lost the bloody scenes and violence that created the first game. You lost the character. You lost the recognizable mythology. If you remove God of War and Kratos from the title, it would just be a story about a goddess who dies.

He also called the game's title, cover, and overall art style unsuccessful, adding that the project looks "boring," "monotonous," and "uninspired."

God of War: Laufey will tell the story of Faye after her death and send players to Everywhen — the afterlife of the gods, where the heroine will meet new allies and adversaries from various mythologies.
