Authors of the One Piece remake spent months redrawing Eiichiro Oda's art until the director approved the visual quality
WIT Studio meticulously studied Eiichiro Oda's style to modernize the iconic anime.
The upcoming One Piece remake from Netflix and WIT Studio is gradually moving towards its premiere. Following the release of the teaser, a statement from character designer and animation director Kyoji Asano was published online by a reliable franchise insider under the nickname @pewpiece.
According to Asano, the team paid special attention to transferring the visual style of the original manga to the screen:
"We redrew Oda-sensei's art again and again. After two full months of meticulous study of his unique style, we finally reached a level of quality that even our director was completely satisfied with."
The new adaptation is being created from scratch to free the project from the protracted nature of the original (where one episode often covers only one manga chapter) and to make the story more dynamic and understandable for modern viewers.
The remake will premiere on Netflix in February 2027. The first season will be quite compact and rich – it consists of only 7 episodes, but it adapts the first 50 chapters of the manga. The story will start with the "East Blue" saga, where Monkey D. Luffy is just beginning to assemble his crew, and will cover events up to the "Baratie" floating restaurant arc, where the Straw Hat Pirates are joined by the cook Sanji.
