Ubisoft cut combat helicopter from new Ghost Recon - insider
It seems the new installment of the franchise will be less ambitious.
Recently, journalist Mike Straw from Insider Gaming shared information about content and mechanics that the creators of the new Ghost Recon, known by the codename "Project OVR," abandoned.
They had previously reported that the project team faced problems – developers spoke of "unrealistic deadlines, poor planning, and management." It then became known that the game's scope was decided to be reduced, and a number of ideas were discarded.
Insider Gaming obtained documents. These materials indicate that at least three features were completely removed from Project OVR, and others were "postponed" to a later stage of development – after transitioning to the alpha stage.
Allegedly, developers removed mines that players could place on the map, as well as a Workbench. According to sources, it was supposed to be used for deep weapon customization and crafting. Weapon customization is still planned, but the system will be less elaborate than originally intended by the developers.
In addition, helicopters were cut from the new Ghost Recon. One source said they were considered "too risky" to implement within the allotted development time.
The game's creators also indefinitely postponed the "Camp Jammer" ability (to suppress enemy camps) and the mechanic of freeing tied hostages.
Several features and functions are currently only in the planning stages; a decision on their development will be made after re-evaluation at the alpha stage. Among them are:
The game may: add the ability for NPC characters to execute hostages, allow NPCs to shoot from moving vehicles through windows, and a new in-game currency for purchases may appear (instead of "Cryptel," they plan to use "Military Credits").
Ubisoft did not comment on publications about the new Ghost Recon.
