A fan of the online shooter Counter-Strike 2 is not going to give up his hobby and sees a lot of benefits in it.

Recently, the story of a Buddhist monk from China went viral in the Counter-Strike 2 community. Reverend Huayan from Mingjiao Temple in Hefei (Anhui province) turned out to be a big fan of Valve's shooter.

Huayan has been a monk for over 20 years, and he started playing multiplayer games back in school in the early 2000s. According to Sina.com, the online shooter Counter-Strike is his favorite game. He once managed to achieve the rank of "Legendary Eagle Master" — one of the highest in the game.

He became interested in Buddhism in his youth and decided to embrace it at the age of 15, despite his mother's objections. His passion for games is not understood by other monks, not encouraged in any way, but not forbidden either. Some people criticize this hobby and believe that "the bloody game will lead him to hell."

However, Huayan has a different view: the monk explained that killing in games is an integral part of improving gaming skills and draws an analogy with chess:

Killing in games is necessary to improve your gaming skills. It's like defeating an opponent in a chess game. Both are allowed under Buddhist rules. According to [critics' logic], people who play the role of a medic-soldier in another game and only save others will go straight to heaven, without even practicing Buddhism in real life.

The monk is not going to give up his hobby. Games help him to "communicate and cooperate" with people for a mutually beneficial outcome. He also noted that these qualities are useful for personal growth.
