PC gamers are already "downloading" the Grand Theft Auto VI beta, but instead of the desired game, they get viruses
Rockstar Games recently unveiled a new Grand Theft Auto VI teaser and announced that pre-orders would open soon. The release of the new installment of the franchise is expected in November of this year, but only on consoles for now.
The release date for the PC version of GTA VI has not yet been announced, but interest in the game is enormous, which scammers are trying to exploit. After the teaser's publication, a fraudulent campaign targeting PC gamers became active online again.
Cybersecurity experts have warned players about the danger. Victims are offered to participate in the Grand Theft Auto VI PC beta test. Scammers ask them to enter their data into a registration form and even conduct a fake "Are you not a robot?" check to make everything look plausible.
There are also mobile Android applications disguised as the GTA VI beta. They lead victims to websites that may contain viruses for stealing information, etc. "Repacks" of the PC version of GTA VI are also being distributed online — viruses are hidden under the guise of game files.
This is far from the first time scammers have tried to exploit interest in Grand Theft Auto VI. Players should carefully monitor the sources of messages about "beta testing," "early access," and other "promotions" allegedly organized by Rockstar Games / Take-Two, and also not leave their data on suspicious resources.
