After Xbox Layoffs, Obsidian Responds to Rumors of "Loss of Identity"

Game director Brandon Adler denied rumors of Obsidian's "loss of identity" after Xbox layoffs.

After mass layoffs at Xbox, rumors spread online that Obsidian Entertainment had lost its former identity. Brandon Adler, game director for The Outer Worlds 2 and one of the studio's unannounced projects, responded to this.

According to him, the past few days have been difficult for the team, especially due to the layoffs of colleagues. He criticized claims circulating on social media that modern Obsidian has nothing in common with the creators of Fallout: New Vegas, Pillars of Eternity, and The Outer Worlds.

Adler emphasized that many of the studio's leaders are the same developers who worked on Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic II, Neverwinter Nights 2, Fallout: New Vegas, and South Park: The Stick of Truth.

Obsidian's DNA remains the same

The developer admitted that the studio has changed over two decades and called it a natural process, not a loss of its own identity. In conclusion, he urged not to trust the opinions of people who do not know how games are made and who is actually behind Obsidian's successes. The studio continues to work on expansions for The Outer Worlds 2 and other unannounced projects.
