The showrunner of "Loki" expects to write the script and direct the project about Richard Rider.
Sources from Deadline confirmed that Michael Waldron is developing a feature film about Nova for Marvel Studios. The "Loki" showrunner will write the script for the project and, if the adaptation progresses further, also expects to take on the director's chair.
New information clarifies details from the Writers Guild of America registry, which became known last week. At that time, the "Nova" project appeared in Waldron's profile among television projects for the 2026-2027 season, indicating a possible return of the frozen series about Richard Rider. However, Deadline sources reported that the screenwriter is currently working on a feature film version of the story.

Thus, over the years of development, "Nova" has changed its format twice. Kevin Feige began promoting a solo film about a member of the Nova Corps back in 2018. In 2022, "Moon Knight" screenwriter Sabir Pirzada was brought in for the project, after which Marvel decided to move Richard Rider's story to television. Later, Ed Bernero, known for "Criminal Minds," was appointed as the series' showrunner. In February 2025, the studio halted the development of "Nova" amid cost-cutting on streaming projects and a review of its television strategy.
Now the adaptation has returned to its original feature film format, but with a new creative team. According to Deadline, the film's development is in its early stages, and representatives for Marvel Studios and Waldron himself declined to comment.
